  3. During a political campaign for my state's governor I was getting robocalls from his campaign. In my state robocalls are illegal. I called the campaign and talked to the campaign manager, informing him that robocalls are illegal. He responded that, "The regulations are being changed." That candidate and campaign: Republican. (The regulations were not being changed.) Years ago Congress was looking at robocalls; the anti-regulation Republicans shut that down and the number of robocalls increased.

  4. I occasionally get calls from the same guy wanting donations for some police organization. The number he calls "from" -- spoofing -- are never twice the same.

  5. Another scam: my closest bar association has two numbers: one for referrals, one for complaints. If one calls the referral line, one gets referrals. If one calls the complaint line, one gets referrals.
