DRM protects the rights of those who own the property being protected. The idea that only the consumer has rights is BOGUS.

Amazon does not have a monopoly because there are alternative self-publishing outlets.

@3nertia There are alternatives to Amazon for self-publishing. _Ergo_, Amazon doesn't have a monopoly on self-publishing.

@3nertia I'm not for self-publishing. The point I made is that there are alternatives to Amazon for self-publishing, THEREFORE Amazon is not a monopoly. Certainly self-publishing ensures that there will be a flood of crap. Otherwise, any promotion must be done by the author. Established publishers do the promotion because they have in-house departments specifically for that purpose. Otherwise I don't "do" Facebook because I saw it for the scam it is.

@3nertia All the conspiracy nonsense is a bore.

@3nertia Self-publishing platforms are for profit. And it's likely they have terms of service. Most publishers do. It's a contract with benefits and limitations on both sides.

Yes: the protections of copyrights threaten the "freedom" to steal others' "sweat of the brow" property.

@anon8510 It is if you don't pay for it. But who cares that the theft is from the creator's potential income.

@anon8510 Piracy is illegal. I have a Mark Twain volume published during the 1900s; illegal publication; theft.

Those who don't pay are stealing from the person who owns the copyright -- typically the person who created the stolen property. Apparently there is a blinness to the hypocrisy of stealing from those one purports to "love".
