  1. It WAS NOT a joke -- it was a COMPLIMENT comparing Smith's wife to a film character that is viewed as a positive role model. What Will Smith did was the CRIME of BATTERY.

  2. The Academy will do nothing now that he's no longer a member. Which will reflect adversely on the Academy. Let's just say he was given a shove: either resign or we'll have to do something. If you resign, we'll drop the issue and pretend it never happened.
