That's what they've always been, and what they consider their best offering: lawless predatory dog-eat-dog chaos.

How can extreme individualist anarchists be a party?

@iamshastagold You don't understand the Constitution and the structure and functioning of the gov't. The rule of law you REJECT includes PROTECTIONS of rights. Get a basic clue: your exercise of your rights is LIMITED by the RESPONSIBILITY to NOT violate the rights of others. THAT is established in WRITTEN LAW to ENFORCE the responsibility for those who REJECT it, up to and including IMPRISONMENT. The rule of law PROTECTS YOU. The word "gov't control" is a biased attack on the RULE OF LAW. Gov't is by definition RULE OF LAW, and the FIRST obligation of gov't is to protect public health and safety -- against transgressions by morons who falsely believe that law and "freedom" are mutually antagonistic. What bothers YOU is that OTHERS ALSO have rights, and that there are LIMITS PROTECTING THEM from your disregard for reason, which is the law itself.

So the "Libertarians" are suspending their typical denial that the United States is a democracy?

The "Libertarian" Party is NOT a rival of the Republican Party -- it is simply more essentialist and extreme in its anti-gov't lunacy. Keep in mind that gov't is by definition RULE OF LAW. And they both rest on the anti-gov't lie of separating responsibility -- rule of law -- from "freedom": If you are mugged and your wallet stolen, it's your own damned fault for having had a wallet.

Because both oppose the existence of rule of law.
