I found the cover of a "Life" magazine from the 1960s -- I probably read it as a teenager -- the theme of which was neglect of the elderly. I'm 75, and the neglect -- even hostile manipulations -- continues.

Every thing every country, including the US, does, is totally self-serving. Foreign aide has more to do with national security than with helping other nations. And note that the Republicans overfund the military (the money actually enriches civilian contractors) and will LIE in order to go to war at the drop of a hat -- but they oppose foreign aide, which does much to reduce the likelihood of war, and costs less than overfunding the military and going to war.

The immigrants are not "illegal," Ms. Immigrant. They are under US jurisdiction, which means they are subject to US law -- which includes PROTECTIONS beginning with due process. They are legal unless and until ADJUDICATED otherwise by a court of law. Can an Ortiz afford to be a bigot?

We can thank Reagan for deinstitutionalization -- the result of which, and his and subsequent economic policies, was growing homelessness. Ukraine, through no fault of its own, is on the front line in the defense of democracy. History-illiterates don't understand the purpose of NATO: 1. The US got sucked into two world wars started in Europe. NATO was to put an end to that, and it has done so. 2. NATO is a defense against a traditionally-imperialist Russia. It has succeeded at that. 3. NATO means Europe is the first line of defense of the United States: better "they" fight them "there," than the United States yet again bail them out with boots on the ground. Stop listening to Republicans: they'll stab you in the back as readily as they'll stab ALLIES in the back -- all to give tax cuts to those who don't need them, while targeting for elimination programs needed by the vast majority -- and funded by taxes paid by that same vast majority.

There's a lot of hostility against "Boomers" from history-illiterate young people who blame the "Boomers" for the situation of the world. The situation of the world is result of the fact that humans -- including those younger fools -- are imperfect.
