I have an Amazon "Kindle". Paid the extra to eliminate the ads. It still gets ads as "recommendeds".

@nickspacemonkey "And now a word from HP . . ."

There will eventually be regulation requiring at least full opt-out.
2
Actually many are turned off to the products advertised. That reduces the product dollars used to buy advertising.
2
@user-qp6lj6gu7s NO businesses like regulation or high taxes. NONE. Most of them expect a free ride as deadbeats, while sucking up profits from those who do pay taxes.
2
And still get "recommends"/ads.
2
So much paranoia all around. All of this is stupid shit.
2
Have you ever READ the regulations -- and thought them through? Or do you only listen to those who oppose regulation based on rumors about the regulations they oppose that they got from someone else who was relying on rumor?

@TheRailroad99 HP desktops were severely limited in expansion possibilities. Dell is now becoming that.

@No0o0o0o0o0 (1) Buy ink, (2) buy paper, (3) be charged by the ink company for how much paper you use. It's a system that DISEMPOWERS the consumer. Slaveryisfreedom.

@No0o0o0o0o0 That one has "choices" does not necessarily justify the choices or make them worth anything. 1,000 TV channels and nothing on.

Vaccine mandates are constitutional: see "Jacobson v. Massachusetts" (1905).

It is ignorance of how the gov't works that results in cynicism, which is an excuse to not learn how the gov't works. Same goes for not voting: "The govt is out-of-touch!" Who is out-of-touch with whom? Do politicians not care? Or do they have people pulling on them from all directions? Is there opposition in gov't to a given position?
1
Yeah -- let's ignore all external guidance and advice: we see where that gets criminals, who definitely follow their own rules.

I've sworn by Samsung in the past. But if there is no opt-out of ads, I'll look elsewhere for my upgrade to 4K.

Using weapons carries legal liability. Everyone has rights -- not only the law-illiterate "righteous". Recording phone calls for use as evidence depends on state law. Better those being harassed/stalked get the advice of those who actually deal with these things, instead of some following the "advice" if some anonymous vigilante posting an unreadable single-paragraph comment.

The decades of Republican attacks on higher education have been successful. They want an uneducated population they can snooker and control. You're even buying into it. A college education tends to ensure higher after-college education. Encouraging education is not "propaganda".
1
The only "collusion" is the competition for most profits. It isn't collusion; it is monetized and mutualized bullying
1
@RCPMK "Colluding" on price-fixing, yes; but all that really takes if for one manufacturer to see what the competition is charging and match that price. If you compare prices for nearly any item on Amazon, you'll find all other sellers selling at the exact same price. Amazon's pricing still fluctuates -- but it used to be by a significant amount; now it's as little as a penny.

Didn't the SUCKER already pay for the ink BEFORE the subscription ended?

Electronics today aren't only limited by planned obsolescence. They are also constructed to make repair impossible.

In 1974 I wrote a broad satire as a university paper (got an "A" and individual notice), in which I referred to "foot-in-the-head advertising," and put advertising in every location I could: drinking a flagon of "grog"? -- advertising on the bottom inside of the flagon reminding you who paid for it..

The indictment is based on EVIDENCE which constitutes sufficient probable cause -- a standard that already exists in law; not on the fact that Trump isn't liked, or the fact that Trump is a third-generation New York con-man and career criminal. Now the EVIDENCE will be tested IN COURT.

Streaming, "smart" TVs. VOD, MOD -- all of these are disempowering consumers.
1
Polk audio: if it dies, customer pays shipping both ways, plus parts.

@keithbowe784 One can return the empty cartridges. But none of this consumer-as-slave to corporate fascism.
