  5.  @paddleduck5328  I've been paying attention for more than 70 years. During elections, John Hancock was a "populist". Between elections he characterized democracy as "mob rule". (That is why we have the Electoral College: the Constitution prohibits political violence, expressly including insurrection. The January 6th insurrections was "direct democracy".) "Populists" Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson the "revolutionary" while in France hobnobbed with the aristocrats. Then when the French revolution inspired by Jefferson was a bloodbath with included the slaughters of both aristocrats and "revolutionary" rivals, Jefferson's defensive rationale was about the "Tree of Liberty" being watered with the blood of the very "tyrants" he'd been hanging out with. Neither Franklin nor Jefferson were ever on the front lines. Neither was the ass who gave the, "Give me liberty,,, or give me death!" speech -- who his own legislative colleagues considered unstable. Unlike Sanders I'm not a far-Leftist stuck in the 1960s pretending to be a present-day progressive. I knew Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin -- they were assholes: their "street theater" provocations of violence got Nixon elected.
