  1. My state has an Elder Abuse statute with a list of mandated reporters, including doctors, nurses, and social workers. They don't report. The statute stipulates a fine of $1,000 for failure to report. But after months of effort to learn who prosecutes mandated reporters who don't report, five different county District Attorneys "Elder Abuse" units said, "I don't know." The person I spoke with in a sixth, identifying herself as an attorney, hung up when I asked the question. The statute identifies a range of abuses prohibited thus prosecutable. But on the relevant websites only 'Financial Abuse" is referenced.

  7. If the Uvalde disaster doesn't "shock the conscience" then one is dead. Or a Texas cop. They had the area in which an escaped murderer was hiding out surrounded. For three weeks. Only after he killed a family of five did they finally "catch" him -- after shooting him to death.

  10. Republicans. Reagan initiated the sedition with his disparagement of the words, "I'm from the gov't, and I'm here to help you." He was saved from death by assassination by the taxpayer-funded gov't and services. Apparently the belief was that he was incarcerated at the time.

  12. The first obligation of gov't is to protect public health and safety. Unless "conservatives" are in charge, in which situation everyone is on their own.
