The problem is the administrators-heavy colleges and universities. They take most of the money but don't teach. And in order for a professor to earn tenure s/he must publish so hasn't time to teach, so that falls to graduate students who also do the grunt research for the professor, who then uses that to publish. It's no wonder the graduate students are trying to unionize because they are paid a pittance for their work. There is no "trickle down" at universities.

@ecurewitz That's the one legitimate criticism of Biden's loan forgiveness I've heard: it doesn't address the money drain that is multi-level college administrations.

@fueymanchoo1291 In some instances -- law -- the new books every year can be justified. But not, actually, in first year law when one is learning the basics of areas of law and how to do legal research. There may be justification in subsequent years in order to train students to keep up with the frequent changes in case law. Similar goes for medicine. So the prices of textbooks can, in some instances, be justified because changes in the field are constant, and it requires relevant experts to keep up with and digest the latest information. Those experts are significant overhead. But tuitions are a whole other issue.

Other people should pay their own way -- but not Republicans. How about asking the Republicans about the PPP loans to Republicans like Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene that were forgiven.
