Those extremists need to read the GRIEVANCES against King George III at the end of the "Declaration of Independence" -- two of which are the exact opposite of the law-illiterate assumptions about the "Declaration": " [King George II] has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies, without the consent of our Legislatures." The military, including Militia, is always UNDER the rule of law. The gov't is by definition rule of law. "He [King George III] has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power." The "Civil Power" is the gov't. As intended, the purpose of the Second Amendment was to establish a NATIONAL DEFENSE relying on the Militia because they FEARED standing armies as a THREAT to LIBERTY. Liberty is protected by RULE OF LAW. What those law-illiterates in the military are proposing is that they be a standing army AGAINST THE GOV'T -- the EXACT OPPOSITE of the purpose of the military.
