  2.  @DAndyLord  They believe they do. Moreover, "religious" doctrine and "faith" are not the same thing. "Faith" is akin to courage: it is that which animates, gives life to, the doctrine. But even when there's a mass murder, including of children, which their "God," according to their speculations, knew in advance was going to happen, but didn't intervene, as many of them believe "He" does, they claim that that same "God" is "merciful". The issue isn't what they believe they get out of it; the question is whether they are reasonable and rational. Those who wouldn't part with a penny for the benefit of their neighbors are infinitely generous with their "thoughts and prayers".

  7.  @randymillhouse791  The amount of corruption in politics is roughly equal to the amount of corruption in the electorate. The idea that the electorate is so saintly that it has no responsibility for the consequences of its votes was rejected by the Founders. Per the Constitution, "We the people" are the gov't. The idea that the gov't is somehow separate and independent of the electorate is irresponsible.
