Instead of paying gov't employees, those departments are shrunk or eliminated, and in their place gov't makes contracts with private corporations that cost more than gov't employees -- and pays them with taxpayer monies. And that was the core deceit unleashed by Reagan. Promoted by the lie that the corporations, paid with more taxpayer monies than gov't employment costs, would create jobs with all that money, and tax cuts. Instead there was introduced cronyism and contract fraud.

  16. In the US, the purpose of gov't is to meet the needs of "We the people," as determined by "We the people" through elected representatives. Reagan typifies hostility to gov't as service to the needs of "We the people" in service to organized wealth ever hungry for tax cuts they don't need. The Trump tax cut for the wealthy created an enormous deficit in service to 1 per cent of the population. And how do Republicans propose reducing the deficit? But eliminating gov't meeting the needs of "We the people".

There are right-wing extremists in Massachusetts; and others have been known to travel to Massachusetts from other states -- one being New Hampshire -- in order to make public issue of their anti-Americanism. Several years ago they made a big deal of protesting on the "Boston Common" -- the counter-protester's march to the "Common" was miles long. They protested more recently at a children's hospital. They are typically racists, anti-Semites, and Neo-Nazis -- stupid people who hate education because it imparts FACTS, which is the thing they most hate and reject. So yes, it is true, which anyone who follows the issue knows.

If people leave their country of birth to come to the US for a better life, then they should leave their baggage on the docks before boarding the ship for the US. Instead they leave a situation they hate, come to the US, and then recreate in the US the situation they hated.

Reagan's focus was on dismantling civil rights enforcement, and initiating sedition against gov't -- gov't being by definition rule of law. In contrast, the Founders were PRO-gov't. And they established a self-governing democracy of "We the people". Reagan's declared enemy was "We the people". He set the template for G. DUI Bushit, and Cheney/Bushit set the course for McCain/Palin, and Palin for Trump. "Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect." -- Frank Wilhoit.

So Reagan's transportation secretary privatized, which resulted in higher fees for those who used it. The private sector charges more; it does not do it better. Don't buy the "privatization" scam: the propaganda is that cutting gov't employees can result in tax cuts. In reality it means paying greater amounts of taxpayer money to private corporations. So privatization costs the taxpayer more. And it introduces cost overruns and contract corruption.
