  2. Thanks, David, for another poignant slice of history. I was 17 in 1967, and although I listened to the music of the scene, I was far too uptight to do drugs or go to love-ins. That changed when I turned 19, when my cousin Ginny (rest in peace) took me to an Airplane concert at the Fillmore. Keep up the good work.   3. Yes. Born in 1950 near SF. I scorned a lot of hippie culture, but believed that they would make the world a more loving place. I was sadly deluded. Not the only one. Great work again, David.   13. Yep. I was very lucky in this time. My lottery number was 19, which meant I was very likely to be called up. I managed to time my student deferral so that I just escaped being mustered for Vietnam. I would have gone to Canada or jail rather than to war. Many others were not so lucky. Lets hope this kind of thing is something we learn not to do.

  17. Fascinating stuff. Being about ten years younger, I got the tail end of these dress codes. A friend and I were the first guys in our high school senior class in '68 to be allowed to have beards. And we wore pretty much what we wanted.

  20.  @kendallsmith1458  My participation in hippie culture in the sixties was pretty much limited to hair and rock. My political participation happened later, in the seventies and eighties. Civil disobedience, jail, and yes, drugs.

  21.  @solitaryman777  Agreed. The depressing thing is that we don't only need to fight sinister people, we also have to fight stupid people. And ideals of human conduct are necessarily unfocussed, because clearly defined objective morals cannot be objectively applied. We just do the best we can. Cheers from sunny Vienna, Scott
