Many flat Earthers nowadays claim that all the heavenly bodies are flat, or are just "luminous bodies".

@jodiwilliams2602 Luckily, NASA can't stop us from watching sunsets. One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat.
75
@moresnare There are videos claiming to show stars through the Moon. What they show are brightly lit mountains on the terminator, or digital glitches.
56
I had a history teacher, Mr. Nazar, who would debate us similarly, for instance in taking the side that the US should not have entered WWI and debating us. A great way to learn.
27
Nice work, Johnny. And bravo Finland. cheers from another country between spheres of influence, Austria.

@CaliSteve169 How can something as bright as the Sun simply "fall out of sight"? What does that mean?
17
@CaliSteve169 How do you explain sunsets, then?
16
@CaliSteve169 What does "go into the horizon" mean? If something is above a plane, it will never go all the way to the horizon.
14
@CaliSteve169 They eventually disappear over the horizon. Just as the Sun does at sunset.
13
@neiljohnson7914 Jesus Christ never said the Earth was flat.
12
@neiljohnson7914 That makes no sense whatsoever.
11
@trying3841 No, actually, the modern flat Earth movement goes back to a fundamentalist Christian, Samuel Rowbotham, and his Zetetic Astronomy, or the Earth is not a Globe from 1881. I've chatted with many hundreds of flat Earthers over the last several years, and of those who expressed political opinions, the vast majority were conservatives.
10
@neiljohnson7914 What should I see clearly? I'm just talking about lines of sight. If the Sun sets on a flat Earth, it's nighttime everywhere at once. But that doesn't happen, does it?
10
@fghjjbskjneok I'm afraid it's not. Some people don't accept the real world.
9
So do you pee in a straight line?
9
That's a myth perpetrated by Washington Irving, who wrote a highly fictionalized biography of Columbus in 1828 that became very popular.
9
1. Because it doesn't have to. If a plane is trimmed for level (parallel to sea level) flight, it will automatically follow the curve. If the plane goes too high, the air is thinner and the plane has less lift. Too low, and the plane has more lift. It's self correcting. 2. Following the curve only requires "dipping the nose" from a straight line one degree every ten minutes (at typical cruising speed). This is so tiny that it's entirely swamped by all the other corrections pilots must make.
8
Didn't you read the title of the video? This is not about proving that the Earth is not flat. There are plenty of videos that do just that. It's about examining why people become flat Earthers.
8
@neiljohnson7914 So how can the Sun set in the US and rise in Asia at the same time, if it's just a spot of light projected onto the dome above a flat Earth?
8
@neiljohnson7914 The real world is the final source of truth, not any book.
8
I've seen the Sun set, and I know that it's not night all over the Earth at the same time. This alone is enough to show me that the Earth cannot be flat. No trips to space necessary.
7
@truthreignsforever9286 Sunsets are a telltale sign that the Earth is not flat. There are many others.
6
Flat Earthers say: for the money (NASA fakes space cheaply and pockets the change), and to turn us from God.
6
@perspective75 The thing is, math works and math plus observations show us that the Earth is a globe. Or do you believe we're just brains in vats?
6
There are plenty of photos of the Earth on film. The first ones from space, that clearly show the curve, were taken from the captured V-2 No. 13 in 1946, long before jpeg, CGI, or Photoshop.
6
Sunsets. You're welcome.
6
No, it didn't work because you can't harness the rotational momentum of the Earth unless you can somehow connect to something that's not rotating with it. The only way this can be done is by going beyond the Earth- say, by using the slingshot effect to help launch spacecraft, or by using tidal energy (both of which are done).
6
Yes. Except on a flat Earth, if it also had air like ours with limited visibility (say, a couple hundred miles under good conditions), you would not see a sharp horizon, unless you happened to be rather close to the edge. Instead, things would gradually fade away in the distance, and the border between land (or water) and sky would be blurry.
6
Wrong on all points. At least you're consistent.
6
@CaliSteve169 So why do ships, and the Sun, disappear?
6
The only difference is that the UN flag doesn't show Antarctica. Flat Earthers need the ice ring to keep the oceans from pouring over the edge. The UN doesn't need it because it's not a nation.
6
Do governments cause the Sun to set?
6
Water is not sentient, it doesn't "seek" anything. Instead, it conforms to the forces acting on it. The most powerful such force here is gravity, which pulls the water toward the center of the Earth. This creates a (very nearly) spherical surface, which is called "sea level". Level and flat are not the same.
6
They all went outside, watched a sunset, and realized they were wrong.
5
@Savior- you say, Your mind will not allow you to believe that such a thing could ever happen. This is called cognitive dissonance. Quite the contrary. Real world observations, plus our minds, tell us that such a thing as a flat Earth could never happen. Flat Earthers live in cognitive dissonance between their beliefs and real world evidence. You need to get outside more.
5
Not if you do your research outside in the real world, rather than on youtube flat Earther videos.
5
@erikbosma8765 Yep. I was taught the same thing in California. I'd heard the story about Columbus wanting to prove the Earth was round, but not in school- it's a cultural meme, originating in Washington Irving's highly fictionalized 1828 biography of Columbus.
5
You've also done zero research on Copernicus. Educated people have known the Earth is a globe for more than two thousand years. Copernicus got in trouble with the Catholic Church for promoting heliocentrism rather than geocentrism.
5
Connectivity via social media is propagating many lies, old and new. The flat Earth is one. Go outside.
5
I've read the Bible. The Earth is still a globe.
5
Two out of three correct. Guess which ones?
5
The Earth is big. Level is not flat.
5
@andy-xz2uk I've met Holocaust survivors. It happened. Just because the current State of Israel is not behaving well does not mean that history is wrong.
5
@christianpulido8360 What does it matter what ancient civilizations believed, except as a matter of historical interest? We also know today that lightning is not thunderbolts tossed by Thor and that diseases are not caused by demons.
5
@christianpulido8360 And your evidence for the existence of Thor or fallen angels is? And most scientists don't have the money to build a pyramid of any size. The alignment is a breeze, but since the constellations change with time, not permanent.
5
@christianpulido8360 Oh, and you say There is also zero evidence of an existing oblate spheroid in reality. Satellites have measured the oblateness of the Earth, which was predicted, by the way, by Isaac Newton. But you will just say "fake", won't you? Okay, have you ever looked through a telescope? Jupiter is an oblate spheroid, and this is visible with a medium sized telescope: it's about 1/15 smaller from pole to pole than across the Equator. Or is that somehow faked too? If so, how?
5
Polaris is not visible from Australia. Let that sink in.
5
One sunset shows that the Earth cannot be flat. No NASA, SpaceX, China, governments, websites, or videos necessary.
5
The Earth is a globe, whether God exists or not.
5
The budget of the US military is more than thirty times that of NASA.
