Here's hoping. Here in Austria, we've only managed to reduce our dependency on Russia for natural gas from 80% to about 66% so far. I love living here, but Austria should have taken steps long before now, the warning signs of what Putin was doing were there for everywhere to see. But of course money makes the world go round. @chrimbus71 No, the sanctions are working. Austria is a small country, and its continued dependence on Russian natural gas is not a substantial source of income for Putin. Most other European countries have cut way back or completely eliminated Russian NG. I'm not excusing Austria here. Tracchofyre summed it up nicely. Lots of very rich people here got richer on Russian gas, and it's proving difficult to extricate ourselves. A great help would be more investement in alternative energies. Wind and solar are already cheaper than oil or nuclear (although not as flexible). And although Austria does do some, in the last twenty years we've gone from being possibly the best in Europe to being among the worst, in terms of environmental polices and actions.
