It's making time and choosing to pick up the book, needle & thread, yarn and hook, paint brush, whatever it might be and spending a bit of time on the thing here and there or during a specifically scheduled duration (like the 30 mins-1 hour each day) and choosing how to break that chunk of time up whenever there's a moment during life.

  16. Sewing groups seem so fun! I started sewing after the pandemic started, so I’d imagine they’re super awesome. Hopefully we’ll all be able to attend them again soon! Most of the sew alongs I’ve seen have been through Instagram actually. Ourshieldmaiden hosts one regularly for example, a recent one was for making a corset.

  18. Thanks so much A.R.! And thanks for sharing your story. I worked 80-90 weeks at one point, and now I'm working about 65-70 (though less since I'm posting fortnightly now), so I can definitely relate to what you're saying. I have no idea though how you survived 170 hours a week, wow! I definitely agree there's a time for strength and to push ourselves forward. I also think though for some people it's so challenging to think about pushing oneself because of perhaps perfectionism or putting too much pressure on oneself. I used to be like this, for instance, when I was a teenager, and I've had to work through a lot of the need to constantly be working and pushing myself to do more, even though I was doing plenty. It can be such a slippery slope sometimes. I guess ultimately it's about finding that balance. Knowing that your strength is there when you need to tap into it because of the stuff life throws at you, and then knowing too that one is doing enough regardless. It's like a compassionate strength in my mind, if that makes any sense haha.

  20. For which part specifically? I have some LUTs I use, but then adjust them to be more stylistic or balanced in DaVinci, but for some of the colour I also just grade it manually with the help of scopes to make sure minimal colour info is lost. Mainly it helps to shoot in Clog so that way there's even exposure and more colour information saved in the file.

  21.  @CarolineElizabethMartin  ​ Thanks so much! Clog will help a ton. Do you use DaVinci to grade your colour? I found myself feeling extremely limited with Premiere not only for colour but for editing eventually too, and so I switched to DaVinci back last summer. I find LUTs just interact so much better in DaVinci and there are far more tools to make sure your colour info is as present as possible. Also boosting saturation using their colour web tool is helpful, and then if you notice one colour group is too bright, grouping those and decreasing those. For the shots sitting in my living room in this video, for instance, I took a LUT that had quite muted colours, and then on the colour web I boosted certain groups, especially greens for instance. I felt there was too much red though, so I decreased that and just made sure everything was within the graph when checking the scopes feature. I also almost always shoot at night with a studio lighting set up, so this helps a lot for consistent lighting between shots, and then also having a UV filtre for your camera can help a lot to make it more customisable.

  37. Yes! I totally agree. Having a few projects in different stages on the go too is also great because then if one task becomes boring or redundant, another might feel more enjoyable in that moment. Or perhaps not crafting at all in that moment!

  43. Totally agreed! Of course, there's that nice balance where we shouldn't overwork ourselves too, but I think that the divine inspiration often doesn't strike, and that's okay. It makes it all the more lovely when it does, but I think it's just an impossible expectation that artists place upon themselves – to be inspired and ready to create all of the time. No one can do that! 😂
