  9. @PRINT One of the best desi English authors - became a massive fan after reading Calcutta Chromosome many years ago. I still get haunting shivers when I re-read parts of the book, every few years... Good to know his interest areas are topical as well.

In one's view, this signals a deeply embedded idea within some 'opinion-makers' that India is meant to be ruled by a certain set of "Chosen Ones" or "Usual Suspects" (as you please) only... -- this notion is worth examining.

  17. I love animals and have had cats, dogs, parrots, rabbits since childhood but we really do need some rules around pets and strays... It is the absence of rules and guidelines that will cause phobias like dog-phobia, stray cruelty etc. I am glad at least the 2022 brouhaha has gotten a conversation started...

  23. There is something known as civilizational memory (some researchers argue that this gets encoded in the genetic memory of populations). Anglophile ideas of a pretend "statesman" of mid-twentieth century, are exactly that, Anglophilic ideas of a western, anglo-saxon ethos that are a source of dissonance --> the narrative is fundamentally misaligned with the civilizational memory of the population. Transplanting them without contextualizing them alienates the majority. BJP does the right-contextualization way more successfully than the patently "superiority-complexed" INC (surprise, surprise), INC taking cues from their latest Gods from the Family and their Oxbridge advisors. This is why, fundamentally, INC will be extinguished in the long run. Nuff said.

  28. You know, few years back, one carried a somewhat similar erroneous impression. However, once one started to actually listening to SG regularly, the opposite opinion was firmed up. Suggest the same, I bet that his analysis & insights will significantly nuance and thereby better your understanding of the world on many topics and issues. Try it.

Let one ask this hypothetical - If The Family of INC was given an unfettered choice to break a chunk of India, say the South and be the undisputed rulers, would they take the choice or abhor the notion. It is a very reasonable bet the The Family will gladly take this power option. Hypotheticals like this one are at the crux of understanding the deep distrust with the INC since 1998. ...   44. One feels that Mr. Owaisi is quite disingenous & not credible so far as his real intentions are concerned. So far as muslim emancipation & progress topics are concerned, he is an Ashraaf who wants to use both hindu OBC's, dalits & Pasmanda (Dalit) muslims for his ambitions. Few days back, PRINT had an illuminating interview of Pasmanda Activist Dr. Faiyaz Ahmad Fyzie that explains a lot of the politics of people like Mr. Owaisi. On a side note, it was Mr. Owaisi's, the dynast's, forefathers in 1947 who fought (and allowed killing of non-muslims by Razakaars ) for over a year till Operation Polo Hyderabad takeover by the Indian Army in Sep 1948. See Sunderlal Committee details for more. An apple does not fall very far from the tree & Mr. Owaisi's politics is old wine in a newer bottle where there never any was wine, but only vinegar.
