@sgilmour47 - You're missing the point. Veggies like to tout not eating animals because they're alive.
But animals are sentient!
DH Lawrence: I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.
Simply put, animals feel, but they don't feel in the same way people do, in a way that we attribute to them, regardless, by anthropomorphizing.
Plants are different enough from YOU that you discount their reaction to stress as inconsequential. You don't put your own feelings on them, you don't empathize with them.
As I pointed out to another hypocrite earlier, veggies simply ignore plants' life because plants are so much different from us that it makes it acceptable to discount harming them.
I'm reminded of a funny scene in Farscape where Chriton discounts some plant life before his shipmate, Zahn, reminds him that she's a plant based lifeform.
Sure, that's fiction, but it uses comedy to highlight the point that veggies are OK killing plants because they're different enough from us.
