This is basically the point of the Army's new light tank. It's not designed to fight other tanks. It's designed to do everything else that an infantry unit might want for support, ie building "room" clearing by sending shells into the building instead of troops or counter sniper by sending an HE shell to a suspected sniper position, etc.

The saddest thing about this story is that in reply to my comment on this video, someone trying to click bait what looks like a webcam site copy pasted your story as a reply to my comment, taking the story as their own. Look for my comment and you'll see the reply.

@edwardgranger1722 - one really odd but interesting thing in Ukraine is the apparent lack of AT missiles on the Russian side. We know they theoretically have them, they were used to slaughter Isreali tanks decades ago. But, in Ukraine, we've seen footage of Ukrainian tanks (and lighter vehicles like HMMVs) drive up to trenches or other fortified positions at nearly point blank range and not have to worry about an AT weapon being employed against them. Russia seems soley dependant on vehicles for it's anti vehicle capability.

Another issue with Russian ERA blocks is that some are just fake, due to corruption. A person seeks advancement in the Russian army (and politics) to be able to steal money. Using fake ERA blocks allows the person controlling distribution of those funds to easily skim more off for themselves. If you're a Russian General, you're not really concerned about the safety of the crew or tank.

Your excellent description of the Kontact 1 armor also raises the question of whether it even helps tank survivability if catastrophically destroyed tanks display intact blocks. Obviously, if the specific blocks weren't hit, they'd be intact, but tank nonetheless received a killing blow, most likely from a missile it's designed to prevent.

Should we test this new tank before trying it in an actual operation? This IS the testing. Oh, cheery-o. Spot of tea?
