Considering Russia views the world as a zero sum game and something can only be good for Russia if it's bad for the West these people and their ignorance is genuinely shocking.

That won't fix Odessa, but it will, at least, delete the Reason Putin wanted Crimea for the Black Sea naval bases and port. You don't need naval bases if your ships are deleted.

At the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukraine and Georgia were told exactly what you wrote above followed by the caveat "someday". You know when "someday" comes, right? Then, that meaningless assertion was followed up by no meaningful action from NATO, ever, not in 2014, 2022, or the intervening years. NATO isn't even doing anything now, it's the individual countries doing their own things to help Ukraine. NATO wasn't interested in Ukraine as a member as an unofficial appeasement of Russia. Meanwhile NATO was stringing Ukraine along and blowing sunshine up Ukraine's butt.

Putin never got over the fact that the American cowboy considered Russia so toothless that America wouldn't heed Putin's warning. So, of course Dubya would urge NATO to do things, like talk up admitting Ukraine, that would follow the same grain of sidelining Putin's Russia. In 2009 Obama came to the White House and began the "Russian Reset". At that point, anything offensive to Russia ceased, including the US honoring its commitments under the Budapest Memorandum to protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. So, again, you would be correct to argue that since the fall of the Soviet Union, Ukraine WAS being considered for NATO membership, "someday"....someday.

  13. The most amazing thing about the water pipe breakages is that there isn't even anyone to TURN THE WATER OFF. I travel for work and have been plenty of places around the US that have had water mains break. I only know because of notices on buildings that there's no water or to boil water due to the recent break. I've never seen water continue flowing for long after the break occurs and is reported.

  16. Well, yeah. It's easier to be a supporter of a war when you're not being forced to actually participate. Putin isn't just not remembering Russia in WWI. Russia isn't remembering Russia inAfghanistan, the US in Afghanistan, the US in Vietnam. And, of course, Russia isn't remembering that help in WWII given to them by the United States. Now, as pointed out, Ukraine is the beneficiary of that aid in this war.

  17. New conspiracy theory on the drone attacks deep inside Russia: US stealth aircraft are dropping the drones. Either they are capable of falling under their own power (to avoid crashing from being dropped above their actual altitude capability) or, the drones are being dropped in a high altitude low opening delivery vehicle to Russian partisans supported by CIA or Ukranian special forces. The Ukrainian freedom fighter attacks into Belgorod Russia were actually a cover operation to insert the operatives that are recovering and launching the drones from within Russia. There's just no way Ukraine is flying small drones into Moscow or flying larger drones with more punch into Russian air bases all the way from Ukraine.

Jake, regarding the mobile phone situation in Russia, besides Russia possibly benefitting from mobile network or phone shutdown to prevent spread of information during the next wave of mobilization, the foreign network providers that had been operating in Russia, ceased at the end of December. There may be an actual technical reason why Russia mobile phones might become useless,if not necessarily bricked at the handset. If Russia isn't able to pick up the slack due to software or tech sanctions issues or the lost expertise then some networks may go down. The added benefit for Putin is that Russia still gets to blame foreign companies, with some legitimacy, for the Russian lockdown on mobile communications.

  28. Vozrozhdeniya was a biological weapons facility that was an isolated island during Soviet times. Being on an island was part of the facility's security. It was abandoned and the samples supposedly burned. However, the water in the area dried up and there's no longer an island. Looters and explorers have been able to just walk in. It's sadly ironic that Netanyahu, and many Israelis would eliminate the Palestinians altogether with a snap of their fingers if it was possible. Take care that when hunting monsters, you yourself don't become a monster. Again, It's similar to Putin and his Nazis. The only reason Israel doesn't outright obliterate the Palestinians is that if they did what they desire, they'd lose the moral high ground and possibly Western support. Although, America so enjoys slobbering and choking on Israeli peen that it might be too far down our throats to remove. As with Putin, Israeli leadership enjoys having the Palestinians and HAMAS as an "existential threat to security". That one of Putin's reasons for invading Ukraine. HAMAS is a creation of bad Israeli regional policies. Israeli leadership benefits more from HAMAS than the Palestinians do because having that threat allows Israeli politicians to be the strongman and continue the cycle. That's a cycle which keeps them in power. Israel doesn't want peace with the Palestinians. Israeli politicians are perfectly OK with Israeli civilians being killed or wounded in terrorist attacks every so often as long as this maintains status quo and enables the Israeli politicians to stay in power and propagate cycle. There won't be peace in that region until Israel eliminates all Palestinians or the civilized world starts treating Israel like the barbaric state sponsor of terrorism that it is. Israel is both directly responsible for the killing of Palestinian women and children as well as the Israeli governments de facto support for HAMAS as described above. As an American, it sickens me that so many people go full on Russian Sheep mode and refuse to think critically and look at the causality of the current situation and how Israeli policy is the catalyst.   35. I said it before, but Kherson wasn't a misinformation campaign or feint. The technical term for the Kherson operations is "dilemma". Basically, the Kherson operation would leave Russia with 2 bad choices. 1st, Russia could divert troops to Kherson region and leave the east and northeast weaker. Or, Russia could not divert troops to Kherson, continuing its eastern attacks and northeast probing attacks, but leaving Kherson weaker. Due to the lack of logistics due to the HIMARS removing Russian supply depots, Russia was no longer able to maintain its troops and hold on both south and east regions. If Russia hadn't reinforced Kherson area, Ukraine simply would have pushed the Russians back to the Dnipr River and re-taken Kherson. So, it wasn't a successful misinformation campaign, it was a successful dilemma that was going to result a huge map change either in the east, northeast, or south

After that, Ukraine's jets dispersed and have been operating from highway makeshift air fields. That's a key aspect that makes the Mig-29 and Saab Gripen superior to the F-16 in this theater.
