This is important to note. Putin must maintain enough military power inside Russia to use the threat of that power to remain in power. #DictatorProblems

@DarkSyster I think Perun channel did a presentation on this. Might've been in a demographics focused issue. In regards to people, it's not as simple as Russia has more for these same reasons. You need more people, in a larger country, to maintain the infrastructure that the society depends on. Russia is already short on people in that regard. Those with mechanical aptitude are prime "recruiting" subjects. So, the infrastructure isn't maintained.

That 1500 tanks per year is deceptive. First, there's a HUGE difference between a T-90 and a T-62. Second, new build tanks are 360 per year at the upper estimates. So, at LEAST 1100 of those "tanks per year" are museum pieces that were obsolete 30 years ago when they were shredded by modern vehicles (Bradley and Abrams) in Iraq.

The irony is that Russia not being a major power is what set Putin on his evil villain story arc of "make Russia great again" after Dubya completely ignored Putin's request to not invade Iraq in search of "dubya emdee".

@traumflug - what's the Russian for "Gaddafi hood ride"?

@Pippie5555 - Yep, it's a good example. Russia, being the largest country on Earth, is also very much not homogeneous. Interestingly, this has a relevance to Gerdes recent vid, 6/23, about the growth of NATO. NATO didn't expand east. Former Soviet states or Warsaw Pact nations fled West to NATO when they were no longer under threat of Russian tanks rolling in to keep the country subjugated. And, those countries wanted NATO protection because they knew that eventually the Russian tanks would come.

"to undermine NATO" Putin, Russians in general still don't realize that NATO is a defensive organization with the purpose of defending against Russian aggression. If Putin REALLY wants to undermine NATO, he just needs to be a peaceful member of the world community.

@donaldclifford5763 is that the same Israeli intel that failed to notice a looming HAMAS invasion? Pardon me if I'll take it with a grain of salt. Here's the thing. Ask yourself this. What did Saddam want more than anything? The answer is to continue being the big fish in his little pond. Saddam had no need of WMD after the Iran Iraq war. Saddam definitely didn't need to give the US of A reason to go poking around in his backwater. And, Saddam knew Al Qaeda was operating nearby and actually rejected their request to use Iraq as a training ground (again, his little pond with no room for Al Qaeda or other such competitors). There were no WMD in Iraq and there was "Russian retrieval" of such prior to the invasion. Such a thing would've been noticed.

@DarkSyster Fortress Russia is a crumbling structure, for sure. Could've been built by China out of tofu.

@duanehorton4680 "state" has several meanings
1
@duanehorton4680 It doesn't matter what the Soviet Union referred to their various geographically demarcated areas as. A republic can be a state. An oblast can be a state. I'm not stuck with the Soviet Unions nomenclature.
