Supposedly, it's the same "space steel", as Elon likes to call it, used on the space X rockets. However, don't they bathe them in something while they're awaiting launch to prevent the corrosion?
It's still amazing that DeLorean used a steel that wouldn't have the corrosion issue, if it was harder to work and more expensive to shape. Of course, Elon is all about making money, so cutting cost isn't unexpected.
As for 304 having less strength, that's probably not really an issue. If it's crashed, the body panels on any newer vehicle are throw away and it's structural components that absorb the impact. In that regard, 304 might also offer better crumple zone performance if it's less strong.
