  1. Google "DeLorean rust" and, while it's a smaller sample, these cars that used 304 stainless steel don't have the rust issues after decades that Cybertruck does in a few months. Elon won't say what the steel is, just "30x stainless steel". Theoretically, it's similar to 304 stainless but obviously it's resistance to oxidation corrosion is much different.

  5. DeLorean doesn't have the rust problem of the Cybertruck... And has an 80s fugly attractiveness about it. 80s fugly isn't cool in a new modern vehicle.

  8.  @Patrick-857  interesting info. Supposedly, it's the same "space steel", as Elon likes to call it, used on the space X rockets. However, don't they bathe them in something while they're awaiting launch to prevent the corrosion? It's still amazing that DeLorean used a steel that wouldn't have the corrosion issue, if it was harder to work and more expensive to shape. Of course, Elon is all about making money, so cutting cost isn't unexpected. As for 304 having less strength, that's probably not really an issue. If it's crashed, the body panels on any newer vehicle are throw away and it's structural components that absorb the impact. In that regard, 304 might also offer better crumple zone performance if it's less strong.

  11.  @MidnightGreen4649  Even the DeLorean is, arguably, a wedge shape and fairly basic design. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's no where near as ugly as the cybertruck. The truck manages to be a wedge and boxy and oddly proportioned. I mention the DeLorean because it's also stainless steel. Although it's normal 304 stainless "earth" steel is better for terrestrial applications than Elon's proprietary "3xx space steel" and the DeLorean was also using Italian designs as inspiration. Heck, it doesn't get any more "wedge and triangle" than the Lamborghini Countach and that thing is still a masterpiece of design (although the "normal" 70s and 80s wheel sizes look tiny on the car by today's standards). The Lotus Esprit is also still one of my favorite, simple designs. The cybertruck looks like someone took one of those and just kept dragging the borders on their screen until it was minivan sized.

  14. 12:50 the shell idea was dropped due to cost. The Cybertruck has normal body panels that aren't structural or load bearing and.... Therefore they don't do anything to reduce the mass requirements of the frame which provides the structure and bears the load.

On Google, scroll down and you'll see discussion on various forums including an owner on Quora asking why the cybertruck rusts when his 40 year old car doesn't, despite being in rain. Sadly, switching to images will bring up pics of cars that weren't cared for.

  16.  @wez3362  Don't worry! Elon thought of this. All you need is a suit designed to withstand 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and float. Then, you can just wait for the battery to catch fire and the sheet metal to burn down around you and then swim out, completely avoiding the need to break a window. #RocketSurgery
