"It's a good thing Stalin isn't still here. We'd all be purged." -Furhov Putler, from the "Downfall" parody "Putin reacts to Ukraine invading Russia"

Wow. It's a double edged sword to tell the people that Putin is personally over seeing the response. Because tomorrow the invasion will be stopped...again but closer to Kursk.

@tomaskinoshta7589 It's much, MUCH worse on Russia. Russian society is built on the concept of "Vranye", вранье, or "lies". Where "I know that you know that I'm lying but as long as we pretend I'm telling the truth everything is fine" is the default not the exception.

Well, technically creating a salient in Russia increases the length of the border. However, Ukraine is building the buffer zone that Putin said he wanted. So, still doing a service for Russia.

@Stracciways23 nobody threw Stalin in the gulag. He died of natural causes. Edit, and his body was revered nearly as a god while it was on display.

Like Germany in WWII. They kept reporting the advance was stopped... But every day it was stopped closer to Berlin

@RebeccaGriffin-b8n Well, not exactly. The border is about the same length, longer if the Ukraine SMO creates a big salient. However, Ukraine IS giving Russia the buffer zone that Putin wanted.

@laurakimmel471 hey, I misread your comment originally. I'd been replying to either bots or confused "pro Russian" Westerners (confused, because Russia is against every Western country these people are in). Apologies if you saw my previous reply. Indeed. The idea of Russia shelling its own towns to regain them isn't far fetched, either. They did shell parts of Belgorod indiscriminately last year when the Freedom Legion raided it. If Russia does, it might actually lead to a referendum if the remaining Russians want Ukraine to protect them from Russia.

Disregard the bots. Mine fled Donetsk in the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine. She's of Russian descent. Now, after Feb 2022, she's mad that Putin has stolen her heritage by making being Russian bad.

8:35 THIS is very telling of how many losses Russia has suffered in Ukraine. These people who fled are mostly women with a few old men and children thrown in. Maybe 1 or 2 fighting age men were left in that town. Russia doesn't have the personnel to remain in Ukraine, push out Ukraine from Russia and protect all of border. Until now, they'd been cheating the numbers by leaving the border sparsely defended, safe in the knowledge that Ukraine had never intended to invade Russia before the war and that the West wouldn't allow Ukraine to do so now.

Except for the people who were actually there. But, other people will probably believe the propaganda instead of people who were there calling the TV and government lies.

@bg1616 because the quote applied

@pimpampet7053 it's the societal concept of "Vranye", вранье, or lies. I know that you know that I'm lying but as long as we pretend I'm telling the truth everything is fine.

Russian civilians have brought this upon themselves by enabling Putin for 20 years and supporting Russia's invasion of its "Nazi, Satanist neighbor".
