  1.  @dphuntsman independent to a large extent, but Japan, South Korea, and a few others are all junior allies to USA. They secure US strategic interests despite not benefiting from it

  3. America has military bases in Japan and South Korea so USA has major influence in the two countries. America does not have control over China so Japan and SK has a certain dislike of China
