@dertosking7306 not the case for Han Dynasty. Han got ousted for Xin, but people were upset with Xin rule, so the people rebelled and restored Han (known as Eastern Han or Later Han). i did hear about secret societies chanting "Down with Qing, Restore the Ming" during the 18th and 19th centuries, but not sure how true that is. at the end of the day, Mandate of Heaven doesn't have strict rules written down, it just depends on who citizens want for emperor.

i think a dynasty is 'legitimate' if the dynasty was passed on within another "hannic" dynasty or it values han culture. although tang emperors were pretty much mixed from the beginning, the founder and descendents of tang valued han culture (and they came within sui dynasty). the 'modern age dynasties' were a bit more complicated.
