Old Qing Theory makes it seem like qing was like every other dynasty to a t, so all previous dynasties were no match for european/foreign powers, but as the name, it's OLD Qing Theory, it doesn't give enough context to the situation. people should look into New Qing Theory. it goes into how Qing was not assimilated and that the policies and traditions they had greatly hindered progress in China. it may be baffling or sneering to think that China was so full of themselves that they lagged behind Europe or more precisely Western Europe. don't be fooled by the "dynasty" part of some dynasties, like: Liao Dynasty, Jin Dynasty, Yuan Dynasty, or notably Qing Dynasty. they started as khagans/khans, so their system of government and traditions are different from the Han Chinese counterpart(s). good practice to distinguish between historic and contemporary
