Exactly, I would be more cautious with his murky and ambiguous views, flip flopping between right and left.
The minute I heard him say the L word, ‘Liberalize’, I lost interest to continue listening, because he has the same western Imperial and religious crusader mentality that he seeks to CONVERT Chinese government and Chinese people, which 95% of people of PRC are overwhelmingly happy and supporting their government led by CPC. It is extremely condescending and arrogant, almost an insult and disrespect to the people of PRC that their approval of their own government.are totally denied and deafened by the west, as if the Chinese are all so stupid and gullible and they don’t know what they want for their life. It’s time the west put down their arrogance and ego, learn something from a 5000 years of civilization.
I wish GrayZone could invite the respectful credible Chinese experts on.Chinese and foreign affairs, such as Zhang Wei Wei or Eric Lee.
Here’s a really good dialogue Zhang was invited in this political talk show Munk Dialogue.

The meaning of being liberal can be different in China than from the west. China in some way has very liberal and progressive approach and achievement led by CPC, such as eradicating poverty as the most important national project, ambitious carbon emission reduction plan, environmental protection green projects, electric transportation infrastructure, constantly reform to adapt to the changing world, China plans big, but you can not achieve big goals all together as whole nation without good discipline and restraint. Western liberal definition is often more narrowly defined with which more focused on individualism instead of collectiveness,
The link I posted in my first comment, is a comprehensive dialogue with Zhang Wei Wei, quite insightful.
