I encourage you to watch Munk dialogue, very insightful, it goes into what it takes to become a Chinese leader, often over more than 2 decades of excruciating real life experience and cross exams in governing over hundreds of millions of population, Chinese prefers a competent strong leader than a clown or TV entertainers or some charismatic speakers, they don’t treat a nation’s leader as some charismatic competition, it’s a serious position they don’t take lightly.

Western democracy is very narrowly defined, only focused on ‘elections’, China’s democracy focuses on selection with election, and it’s still evolving and reforming.
Do remember, all system should be treated as ‘human experiments’, no system is end game. A healthy system must have mechanism for self correction, otherwise it will succumb to rigidity that would suffer.
But hey, good news, China does not go around the world imposing her system, because China knows if the systems fits her, it doesn’t mean it fits others. But China welcomes exchanging experience and learn from each other’s strengths.
