  1. Any attempt to use the United States military against its own citizens might end up being the last stand of the US government in the form it is in at the time of deployment. It would be the first time since civil war... But also the first time against non separatists. At that point it is win or die for the US government, and most members of the military would not have the heart to follow it all the way through after the first backlash. It would cause a military coup in favor of the dissenters in all likelihood, rather than succeed.
