A tax break would be great incentive. It's different than a handout but has roughly the same effect financially. Have that tax break apply only to married couples with children. The more children per married couple the more of a tax break you will get.

I actually agree that we should get rid of social security entirely but now is not the time for that. In the future we should however consider it. The program itself is inherently socialistic and is unsustainable long-term, but to cut it off cold turkey immediately in one moment would not only be politically devastating but it potentially devastating to tens of millions who unfortunately have grown dependent on it. If we were to get rid of social security we would need to do it out by picking a date in which we cut off any further issuing of social security numbers at birth, as well stop new people from paying into it who are not already paying into it (like your first job as a young adult). This would begin a process of phasing it out. It could be flushed out more but that's how you would have to start it out the number of people withdrawing from social security would naturally shrink with time rather than stay the same or grow. In time this would naturally lessen the need for social security as a program and it could be phased out entirely.

@bvegannow1936 I would say ban tax breaks for having kids to the unmarried. The tax breaks themselves for a child are not a negative depending on the situation.

@johnw9038 that may be the case but it certainly doesn't discourage baby-making for the unmarried. It is still welfare. Tax cuts for having kids are different however. Just make sure it's for children of married parents.

There are some things that even good policy aren't going to be able to fix themselves. Government typically does not fix a social situation beyond giving it a fighting chance and a slight increase of opportunity (and that's if you assume it is a good and benevolent policy which I think this one is). In the end it comes down to everyday People probably putting in more than the average bit of work to do proper courtship... I would say however that we should get rid of no fault divorce when children are in the picture. If there are no children, then no-fault divorces should be possible. But not with children. The only way you'd be able to find fault at that point, is by proving abuse, neglect, or adultery if kids are in the picture. Bonuses are about the best governments can do (though I think a tax break per child of a married couple would be the best kind of bonus). Society is more likely to work itself out on the marriage front than government stepping in and trying to fix the divorce rate and the declining marriage rate. As for getting rid of the incentives for divorce, we really do need to modify our alimony payment system.

This is why I do grassroots stuff instead of just wait around and complain on the internet. The black pill is the doctrine of inaction.

If it were modified slightly to apply only to married couples, no. It's mostly awesome but there is that flaw. It should also probably be a tax break per child of a married couple rather than simply a check.

A lot more people can pull it off then you would think but yes it does not apply to everybody. We can increase charter schools, and also encourage private schooling if it is not possible to have a parent in the home. Any other school option than public schooling is preferable whenever possible, so it does not necessarily mean only homeschooling. A tax break for people who do not use the publicly-funded option however would be awesome.

If Canada wished to truly improve the situation they would make it a tax cut rather than a check. It has the right idea in mind but the wrong method. Granted Canada is not the only country that has implemented this good premise the wrong way... Far from it.

I generally like hungary's pro child policy but I don't like that particular part of it. A tax break is good enough for married couples. Never get people addicted or dependent to the government teat, and never take out a loan unless you are financially desperate.

Expats have the ability to vote so long as they maintain citizenship. In fact most countries allow expats to do the same if they've maintained citizenship.

@artstocker60 he makes me so embarrassed as a Catholic. I guess I just have to ride out the situation ignoring him.

Fight that hard. I have a feeling it would be a lot harder to push that in the UK then it wouldn't be in say, the Netherlands or Germany though. There's not many places on that island you are able to displace people in order to implement such a thing without pissing off millions. If they try it pull some sort of weird protest that piles up a bunch of garbage in London by blocking dump trucks.
