I want nothing to do with a DeSantis campaign if it has anything to do with the Bush ways. Trump changing the GOP voter base in 2016 was a godsend.

@sirmikalus9923 yeah, this is becoming sad and disappointing.

It is actually more common to start a war in their first term. Far more common.

Beefing up your military capabilities and actually starting new wars are two different things. Ask for the pharma grants they were not unlimited and actually had very strict guidelines which of course the next administration would 100% ignore and many of the people in the bureaucracy were not giving him the full story on how those restrictions were not being enforced. Given the rock and hard place situation he thought it best at the time. In hindsight I am sure he regrets it.

He has many times pointed out DeSantis has strengths as well as his weaknesses. He is allowed his view. He happens to support Trump more. You will find creators that support DeSantis more.. but I am not going to call those creators anti Trump propaganda channels just because they happened to support one over the other. I think he generally has a fair take. Everybody has bias. However he is capable of being objective, and he doesn't seem to act much on emotional impulse but rather logic.

@fettel1988 begging the question of why the hypocrisy.

Said every authoritarian conscripting government ever. I actually have a lot of sympathy for people who bailed on Vietnam or fought against the conscription effort. It was a war we did not need to be in. I guarantee if they start drafting for Ukraine your tune will do a 180 turn. There should not be a draft period, end of story. Resistance to a government-mandated draft should not be met with distain. At its best military service is simply a positive elective. At its worst military service is an act of forceful coercion.

People do not like being used as a stepping stool. Over time people see right through that.

He's more a Cruz type. He kind of straddles that line between America first populism and the old neocon status quo. It's better than an all-out neocon but it's not as good as an all-out populist. Based on his policies the people backing him and the strategies he uses he shows major neocon tendencies if he's not an outright neocon. He is no maverick. And then there is his Congressional career which is way less than stellar. He criticizes both when he feels it is warranted. He also complements both when he feels it is warranted. But I have to agree with him DeSantis is putting out big red flags. A lot of people say and do things for advancement, but there are always tells.

@sirmikalus9923 memorial Day is specifically meant for fallen soldiers. So yes, bad move. If you wants to use that card he can use it on veterans day.

@ChrisSuperDude I'm still more for Lake or Paul, but I'm certainly open to your suggestion. I want to see how much Vivek can shine in coming days.

I'm not sure about the work or ten years part, but paying taxes yes. The taxes imply that you either have worked or have enough value as a retired person or very rich person to pay your taxes. Long as you're paying them I don't think you need the years tacked on- but the taxes would imply that you are actually contributing something. Mostly correct though.

Rand Paul and Kari Lake are tied as my favorite picks for a Trump 2024 VP choice. They are also probably on his short list. Ramaswamy would not be that bad, Elder might be okay too. You have a good handful out there that might be pretty good, but not too many.
3
I actually like Ramaswamy as well as Trump. I think it's a bit unfair to put him in that list.
2
@enochvaldorian2029 I suppose I understand your concern. We'll have time to see what Ramaswamy is all about.

There are not enough States that are fortified to fortify a primary. Most states waited with GOP voters for a primary have no fortification to speak of.
2
That is going to be a problem because most DeSantis supporters are still more less supporters of Trump. Most of them were supporters of trump first as well. Most of them are generally on board with the Maga platform. Also most of the logic surrounding the DeSantis support revolves around winning... So I'm thinking most of them will probably vote for the person that is capable of winning their own party primary in the general. Yes I'm calling a bluff.
2
I have not yet heard this one from a Trump fan. Perhaps will run into it eventually. There's always a few crazies on both sides.

Naturally he's going to be attacked by his competitor. So that is by the by. When DeSantis gets deplatformed from every major platform and constantly dragged through kangaroo court trials at some point, then maybe we can talk about who is under more attack we can talk about who has higher electability the eyes of the deep state.

@daltonnelson94 if the sentence is having trouble forming a cohesive strategy I think Trump is going to run rings around him. He's already put DeSantis in a position where he has embarrassed himself a couple of times now. Trump has demonstrated the ability to be able to lie in wait and set traps. DeSantis has demonstrated the ability to fall into traps. Trump is also not at all lackluster in front of a crowd. It's like a rock concert for him. DeSantis can have moments but is lackluster at length at length.

A few of the people they have on contractor genuine, but the problem is their contracts are crap and they might have them trapped in.
1
In terms of party for the most part you are correct (d & r). As for philosophical right and left they have never been the same. The problem is the party does not always line up with the philosophy.
1
Certain elements of the right, yes. Not because they are philosophically the same but because there are many who wear conservatism as a mask.
1
I wouldn't say most of his fans are, but the pro-establishment cronies do seem to be pushing him into the situation for a reason. I do think the few pro-establishment Republican voters out there, however, are more willing to back to DeSantis than Trump.
1
@skye.325 all populist movements are killed by moralistic movements. This is not to say that the morals being tots on the right are incorrect, but it means that the big tent platform is broken down by appealing to a smaller and smaller group of people because moralistic movements spiral. Hyperfocusing on morality of nearly every other issue on the federal level was also a major hindrance to the GOP until 2016 in campaigns against the left, and it was a reason the national-level GOP was losing more and more over the years. Was not attracting enough independent, third party and center voters When it comes to morality I would consider Trump center-right. He largely wants to keep morality issues off of the federal stage, where quite frankly in a constitutional sense, they never belonged to begin with. That's a States issue. Trump is anti cultural Marxism same as DeSantis, but he takes a more strategic approach in addressing his audience. Trump's approach has appealed to a broader group of people. He is capable of bringing over many of the center and even a few on the center left as well as virtually all of the right. DeSantis will do excellent for the red meat of the GOP, what does not have the broad reach to go much farther than that. Trump is imperfect. Same as DeSantis. But it appears that only one has a more uniting message. The only cultural fight Trump wants to fight on a federal level is to root out systemic cultural Marxism in our government. The rest of the social issues he wants to leave up to the states and the people to decide. Ask for Disney most of us knew what it had been long before DeSantis became governor, so there was no exposure really needed.

Our troops haven't had a real blooding since Vietnam. Walking into Iraq and Afghanistan was akin to stomping an anthill. It doesn't mean many of our soldiers didn't have a bad experience there, but most people that were deployed in Afghanistan and Iraq did not actually see any combat themselves. Our soldiers are not nearly as battle already as we think they are. Those Taliban f*ckers however, live and breathe war everyday. They aren't comfortable.

@IronskullGM has quite a few of farther left views. Outside of his stance on vaccines freedom he's pretty much your standard left winger.
1
@IronskullGM JFK jr. Wants blanket gun bans. He makes Biden look tame by comparison in how he speaks about them on the issue. Congress will never approve the abolition of the CIA. He could get rid of the FBI with an executive order, I suppose. But he's been deep into the establishment Dems for years, so I think at this point it is more about making himself stand out rather than something he'll actually do. If we're disarmed, they won't need an FBI.
