Fully agree. It starts with the basics: A "pull request" is when you want to contribute code.

The way I understand is $40/h is what the Canadian CTO paid to the Indian dev partner company, not what the individual devs received from that Indian company as compensation.

It wasn't even his own team, it was an outside dev shop. I was like "How about you get the devs suitable for the task instead of making the task suitable to OUTSIDE devs?"

What's the name of that Yahoo i18n library?

I found the problem in the first 3 paragraphs: "His vision is to migrate a massive desktop WPF application to the WEB IN THE CLOUD. [...]. He already has a development partner in India, but they LACK EXPERIENCE in building WEB applications." Basically "friendly CTO" is (implicitly) going to pay his dev partner to educate their employees in building web applications. There is no way around it.

It's not so fun when you are an actual user of such killed products. It just shows that Google is in the end a consumer company. It's the opposite of what a real BUSINESS like Microsoft is doing - keeping stuff running and backwards compatible because they understand that their customer depend on it and invested in this stuff and taking it away can result in huge cost or finding and implementing a replacement and it destroys trust. I would as a business never build on Google because you can't trust them.

It's great until you realize your data is thousands or even millions of rows.

Just having meetings is not bad enough: Have the person that disagrees with everything write a meeting summary that is circulated among attendees and incites discussion about what was actually talked about and decided in the meeting. You can at least 2x the impact of meetings this way.
