  1. The FDA does a good job in the pharmaceutical space (the "D" of FDA) but horrible in the food section (the "F"). Not surprisingly, pharmaceuticals in the US need positive efficacy (i.e. proven to do what they intended to) and low risk/side-effects, as evidenced by mandatory clinical trials. For this reason, pharmaceuticals approved by FDA often have no problem to be also approved in Europe relatively quickly.
