@Emma Cabot I think we've had this discussion on another thread. As I stated, legally he was found innocent of rape. So were do we want to go with this?

@charliewinstonberg9884 Also, I don't think he got off easy. Statutory rape between teens is considered a misdemeanor offense in most states. So I wouldn't have expected an excessive sentence whether you're white or not.

Perhaps he is. But if he was legitimately found not guilty of 1st degree rape, why should he go to jail? A 3 -year age difference makes you a predator? That's the part of the law that is silly, and indeed is rapidly changing as more and more states adopt age-difference clauses in their laws. What, you have to be exactly the same age to not be a rapist? It borders on the absurd imo.

@charliewinstonberg9884 I agree he acted badly, if not deplorably. IMO he probably did commit rape, as the victim is writing a book about it, and you don't do that sort of thing if you're lying. But the evidence in court was not strong enough. As to the issue of statutory rape, it depends on where one personally draws the line with age differences. But what I totally disagree with is using the stalking laws here. That is patently ridiculous, and an abuse of the law. They already knew each other ! And lifetime sex offender registry is just totally excessive, to me at least.
