Well IMO it can work both ways. As you say, it seems an assault on human dignity. But on the other hand, ex-cution is like a get out of jail free card. If you would have spent 50 years in prison, the death penalty means the you can never experience your punishment. Is that really justice?

@qwopiretyu What I mean is, since before the plot mentioned above, and even before the Air France plot, and certainly after, the concept of flying planes into buildings was no surprise to either W or Condoleezza Rice. Either they played dumb, or were grossly uninformed. I have a hard time believing the latter.

@jakammor4449 I think so, but I doubt that's the reason.

@Alecup06 Perhaps. But more likely Just IMO, it had a lot to do with the antagonism of the C-A towrds the F-I, whom they viewed as a bunch of little leaguers. With over 200 red thread alerts that summer, and then add to that the mounds of inefficiency, and the total lack of inter-agency communication, it's not as surprising as it seems. But if I were to bet on one person who could have stopped it but deliberately didn't, it might be Michael Scheu-r. But that's highly speculative. But I doubt the administration itself wanted it to happen, or knew the exact details o the plan.
