  11. Think it's more complicated than this. There's rape culture, which explains much of the silence. But there's something else here that's rarely mentioned. Men are constantly afraid of harm coming to their wives and daughters.: they clearly loathe rape. BUT, just as women can never completely trust men, men also have experienced the fact that you cannot completely trust women either. Women own the "meat package" industry, and men know this. They know that one misinterpreted move, and their lives can be ruined. Thus they are constantly in a state of anxiety about s-x. The takeaway is, and just my theory, men maybe reluctant to join anti-violence marches, or speak out, because down deep they have the "false accusation" anxiety. Is this reaction all cultural, part of the rape culture patriarchal mindset? Or as Steven Pinker suggests in a different context, that mistrust is one of the biggest problems with human nature everywhere?

  12. And one final point if I might. I have no doubt much of what you say is true. Many men stay silent. But, so do many women. Most women I know have not been activists, or participated in rallies or marches against se-ual violance either. Why should a man be more obligate than a woman to take action just because he has a pe-is?

  13. I hope so too. But as we all should know, it's not the norm. It can take years and decades to heal. Maybe some people don't get that. But with hard work and determination, many women have got their lives back. She is in a position of strength because the whole world (well hopefully most of it) is in a sense supporting her. How many people have that luxury.

  14.  @juliamikhaylova8235  + I think you must have misread my meaning. The "luxury" is not "essential support," but the support of the WHOLE WORLD, or at least a huge part of it. That IS a luxury, because only a lucky few ever have that opportunity.

  17.  @Deversrehomedmemory  I agree, but women help keep the system in place too. Look at the women who voted for Trump. They flock to Alpha males because they want the resources and the high status. They are not as bad, but are accomplices to the system.

  19.  @Deversrehomedmemory  I agree in general, but some countries do have distinctively more revolting cultures regarding s-xual assault and misogyny, like that of honor killing. South Africa and India have been far more implicated in rape culture than the West, in general. And women have overall been far worse treated in many Middle East countries, as we all know to well.

  23. Trans people should not be considered a problem per se. I fully sympathize. But when it comes to bathrooms and dressing rooms and even prisons, why should only their concerns matter, and not the concerns of others too? Does the average woman want what appears to be a man in the dressing room? Is that a valid concern or not? The answers IMO have to involve trade offs and compromises, otherwise it's one group's rights stamping out the rights of others. Hard problem as I see it.

  25. I have full respect for the rights of trans people. But that does not translate into running roughshod over non trans people. I am willing to even grant them redefining the term gender. But trans men in womens' prison is a huge violation of the golden rule. And we all know that many trans men just say they are to have acces to women's private spaces. It's so shameful that even supporters of trans rights have bought this preposterous view that majority opinion should be extinguished in the dressing room.
