  2.  @marcdraco2189  This is true, and not too long ago by some measures cars were safer. But since about 2000, the safety has reached incredible levels. Just take the US. Excluding the regionals, there's been only a single death on US airliners since 2001. Not even driving a single mile in a car in this period could match that safety. My best guess is driving just 50 feet = the fatality risk per flight in this period.
