Well, this is part of the problem with the rape culture thesis. It's IMHO a product of academic feminists, who have already demonstrated throughout the years their fondness for redefining reality on their terms. On the other hand I believe "rape culture" does have some truth to it. There are still traditional attitudes out there that trivialize sexual violence and even blame the victim, as in the widely expressed view that women have to "take responsibility" for putting themselves at higher risk for rape. But these discussions are unbalanced which is why you never hear the term "anti-rape culture," as if the culture only operates in one direction. That's a sure sign there's an agenda underlying this. The notion of "anti-rape culture" is strict;y taboo at TED talks for instance.

Yes, the PC notion that rapes isn't about sex has been if not refuted, then at least seriously challenged by the book "The Natural History of Rape." From an evolutionary perspective, for a minority of men, rape is in essence a reproductive strategy. Not consciously of course, but as a means of access to women. For the majority, violence doesn't pay as it tends to be too costly. But for some marginalized men who few women find attractive, rape might be a rational strategy from the point of view of survival of your (or having) offspring, and probably evolved for this reason. I also don't understand conceptually why sex cannot be violent. Is this just wishful thinking?
