Because other people can see it? But I grant you that in this day and age of sexual predator hysteria, the idea of calling him a predator shows how far removed society is from reality.

I don't think so. What normal kid, however prone to bad mistakes, wants to assault a 98-year old? And continue to have s=x when she's dead. This is way beyond a massive mistake, as I see it. This is beyond anything remotely normal.

More like a twisted depraved, psychopath, mega-narcissist monster.

Or Donald, a man who invented out of whole cloth the stolen election lie. And all the millions that believed him without an iota of proof.

It's a good question. But it's just one of many that comprise the debate over the death penalty. Personally, I am against it in practice, but I cannot pretend there aren't also good cases for it.

And look how he continues doing it throughout the interrogation. He wants to be caught, no doubt about it.

It always does because anything remotely having even a scent of sexual perversion is sure to make big headlines. But in this case the, the police dept. and law enforcement brought the publicity on themselves for trying to protect him. If you ask me, I'd say he probably is proud of being caught. What is the biggest thrill of an exhibitionist trying not to get caught? Having the whole world find out.

Well, I think he ruined it. My speculation, as one poster said, is he probably enjoyed the thrill of almost being caught. That said, do you remember the mass hysteria day care center witchhunts of the 90s? The slightest suggestion of deviance sends many people into trigger mode.

He's not going to jail. Sorry to disappoint.

Could someone help me here. I don't get the part about the sneakers: At 17:12 they ask Sheila why "he didn't take these shoes." I'm a bit lost. Take them where?

The only partial defense that might be true is that, unfortunately, what you say is not necessarily common knowledge. I am surprised by how many people have expressed some sympathy for a child predator that taught at my school. Oh, they don't deny it was wrong, or that he should go to jail. But they don't get the lifelong trauma part. That raises the question, as with drunk drivers who kill, should the sentence reflect that for SOME of these predators, they don't understand the extreme extent of the damage they do?
1
Hard to say.
1
What aren't you buying? That he's a twisted psychopath?
1
Good point. I think it can be both or either, or perhaps other factors which is why we should not jump to the conclusion it's the parents' fault. Look at the Kaczynski brothers.

Some people are so sick they may not be able to WANT to help themselves. Remember, these are not just normal people who screwed up, they are so incredibly different than you or me, and we kid ourselves when we try to imagine them being anything like us.
1
But suppose his next victim is you?
