The irony is that it was precisely the short sentence that ruined his life. Had it been, say, 2 years, no one would have heard of Brock Turner.

  4. There may be some truth to what you say. But imagine if this were a case of drunk driving. Would we be wrong to punish someone just because they might be too drunk or stupid to recognize they were about to commit a potentially lethal crime?

  6. The irony is that it was precisely the short sentence that made him into the most reviled rapists in the US. I only have a little sympathy because he gets all the target of this disproportionate rage. Had he received a full one year in jail or more, no one would have heard of Brock Turner.

  8. I agree that not all rapes are created equal. However, it can be pretty frightening, I imagine, finding out later you have been raped. And there's no question sex with someone unconscious is sexual assault. I think we males might be at a disadvantage in dealing with this. If I woke up to some girl giving me a HJ or BJ, I'd say "please, don't stop!" But women do not think this way at all. They have a very different sexual psychology, and men have to be taught that women don't go for all the same things men do. And this is a big one of those things.
