  1. What a refreshing outcome. A judge who has the right combination of fairness and empathy to resist the political and racial hysteria that is the wellspring of support for a longer sentence.

  2. That's become common all over the place in the last year. They now say "108 months." And so on. But the fact is, that's an appropriate sentence. It was an accident. Had it been a black cop who made the same mistake, the protests would be farther and fewer.
