I would say the two cases are almost the same but for one potential difference. Zimmerman/Trayvon not only lacked video, it had some potential reasonable doubt. How certain can we be that Zimmerman is lying when he states that he turned around to back to his car, then Trayvon came from behind and attacked him? If this counts as reasonable doubt, then effectively Trayvon is now the aggressor, as a merely scared person would retreat, not pursue. The equivalent in the Arbery killing would be if at first Arbery retreated, then when the McMichaels got back to their house, and opened the car door, Arbery suddenly lunged at them. Obviously the McMichaels have no case for anything like this.

I would suggest 10-15 years based on the standards of reasonable doubt of intent, and that it may not have been premeditated. Give the benefit of reasonable doubt to everyone, including to racist pigs.

But I vigorously protest putting the third man, Mr. Bryan, into the same box. He deserves some punishment yes. But his transgressions were not proportional to the other two. For example, he did not set out illegally at first. And he had no intimate knowledge of the Ms plan at pointing guns at AA.

@alanmorris7669 In your view yes, in mine no. There is no absolute objective correct answer. The best we can do is evaluate the evidence as thoroughly and fairly as possible.

@alanmorris7669 True. And the jury may well find them not all equally guilty. I suspect Bryan, the third man, might be given a somewhat lessor sentence because 1)he did not initiate an illegal chase the way the Ms did. And most importantly 2) he did not conspire to, or have foreknowledge of, the Ms plan to use deadly force and armed assault. To me, these are relevant differences in culpability. Just my views, but I fully respect yours too.

But in this case it turns out it wasn't legal. So that's 2 strikes against the Ms. The third strike, that this was a hate crime, is IMO somewhat more questionable though.

@ulyssesgrant2782 Sure, I will try to. People who only see in black and white are not helping the discussion. Nuance is key. You're not interested in that. And that's OK. We all choose different standards of seriousness.
