  2. I think what's fishy is the ridiculous and blatant disregard of basic established safety protocol. Running helicopters under landing airliners at night under visual conditions with a few hundred feet clearance is suicidal. The horizontal separation is supposed to be 3 miles, but here it was effectively zero. This sounds to me another example of the military's slip-shod standards, and in this case using paying passengers as guinea pigs. Take your drone exercises somewhere else. This is mass murder plain and simple.

  3. It was much more basic than that. Since 1956 we have known that visual flight rules are dangerous, especially at night. The helicopter flight was planned with no more than 300-500 ft vertical separation, and zero horizontal separation. But the minimum separation in terminal areas like this is 1,000 ft vertically, and 3 miles horizontally. Whoever approved this flight plan is guilty of mass murder, IMO. However, if I got the facts wrong, I will duly correct.

  6. True. But limiting ourselves to the established 1st tier airlines, and excluding commuter/regional flights, the skies this year are pretty much as safe as usual. So keep taking UA, AA, Delta, BA, Lufthansa, etc, and you are not going to be in these other categories of crashes.
