  1. But there's no moral consensus, nor definitive proof, that the unborn have the same full human value as you and me. The same might be then said of newborns; but since there's a consensus by then, and because it's impossible to imagine a consensus AFTER birth, the moment of birth remains the most rational place to draw the legal line. As I see it, of course.

  3.  @GoogleAccount-wy1ub  I don't have definitive proof either. I'm glad we are both not trying to go down that impossible path. I propose that without a brain there can be no meaningful person or human being. Could that be as reasonable as "when life begins"?

  4.  @GoogleAccount-wy1ub  That's a very interesting scenario, a definite challenge. I'd really have to think about it. Tentatively my sense is probably not, as we are talking in the realm of potential person, if we accept my criterion of having brain function in the present to qualify as "meaningful person." But it's a very tricky issue, as I see it.
