But that argument can be used for any form of transportation.

@JUNXO If I may continue the theme of FF bashing for a bit more, there are a number of factors that could affect the fearful flyer, despite the evidence of its high safety. As an industry commentator once remarked, flying "is contradictory to the senses upon which our emotions are based." That may be the key emotional centerpiece driving this fear. It's instinctive; and probably much more powerful than any compilation of accident statistics. Or, especially, if you don't know what they are and how to compare them.

@stevebeckerman4214 Well Boeing is guilty no matter how you do the math. They knew 3 months before Ethiopia that there was an estimated 50% of a max crash every year, yet they kept the plane flying. Both parties were negligent.

@tdot7764 But Ehiopian Airlines was arguably the bigger cause of the crash.

@lonerebeI It's almost impossible to twist the stats to make driving look safer, even for an above average drive. However, the fear may not be based on dying but on an inherent fear that humans have, or the fear of being in terror. That's certainly understandable.

@mrjayz94 Unless there's a fire.

@robertlopez7988 Whatever works for you. Amtrak has become much safer in recent years. But you still can't twist the stats into Amtrak being safer than flying within the US commercial air system. By passenger miles traveled, flying is at least 50 times safer. And that would only be true if there were no fatalities. In fact there have been zero fatal air crashes (corrections welcome) in the last 10 years. By contrast Amtrak have killed 7 passengers since 2021. edit: Oops, I forgot the single Southwest fatality in 2018: was not a crash per se so I missed it.
