Why would you expect a bunch of perverts to show remorse?

Well he may be worse. He's a moral lunatic, as Sam Harris put it. He's a traitor. He tried to lie his way into staying in power. His business school was a fraud, he has no morals, no humanity. If you cannot see a psychopath staring you in the face, then maybe you are beyond help.

I think they aren't literally saying that, but it's still a bit over the top. They say, men remain silent. As if most women are out protesting. Seriously.
6
It is. But on the other hand, this was a specifically tailored message to the pervert community. It should come as little surprise IMO.

There's to my knowledge a single ra-pe allegation against Biden, and his accuser has generally been discredited as deceptive. "Wrye’s distressing experience with Reade wasn’t an isolated case. Over the past decade, Reade has left a trail of aggrieved acquaintances in California’s Central Coast region who say they remember two things about her — she spoke favorably about her time working for Biden, and she left them feeling duped."
2
I think Biden is far more questionable. But I agree in general.
2
"of course none of the men reported the ex-husband to the police! " Your;e right: but then, we shouldn't expect people who participate in these chat groups to turn their fellow perverts in.
2
What about the mothers? It's they who traditionally do most of the raising.
2
It's always been scary for women - and men too.
2
why SOME choose the bear.
2
Biden case is no comparison with Trump. A long wiki article on Tara Reide revealed she lacked credibility. Her acquaintances felt deceived and duped by her, and an investigation found no pattern of sexual assault by Biden.

In the US, that conversation may have gone to an extreme. Personally, there's only so much such that conversation can have an effect: you have to be a different kind of person to begin with to think this stuff is OK.
2
Perfect example of a person who is incapable of normal judgement. He probably couldn't help himself if he tried. The real frightening part is, half the population cannot recognize a lunatic when they see one.
2
Because we incorrectly tend to assume all men (and women) think just like we do. But they don't. For example, psychopaths don't flinch when shown videos of people being hurt, the way the rest of us do. Deficient emotional circuitry and failure to bond properly as a child can produce lifelong monsters. The list of reasons is probably endless. For me personally, the assumption of rationality is grossly overrated.
1
Totally agreed. But the fact is, women have to change too. As radical feminist Phyllis Chesler has written, the patriarchal system is kept in place by both genders. Look at all the woman rushing to Trump's support. Women flock to the alpha males because they want to share in the status and power. There is no "universal voice of women." It's a total myth.
1
Worldwide there have been many male voices. But not much in France, or at the courthouse protests. That doe not serve French men well.
1
How can we possibly mind read though? We should assume the best of people's motives in the absence of contrary evidence.
1
Absolutely

@Melly3112-ox3ey Not sure, but many EU countries have a 30 year max on murder.
1
Maybe because they are.

I think there has been progress, but it's not always linear. As Noam Chomsky recently said in an interview (one of his last, it would seem) in the US a women wasn't even legally a person as recently as the 1950s. We have seen the downfall of many bad men in positions of power - The Weinsteins, Cosbys, Epsteins, and many others. That would have been virtually unthinkable until very recently. There may be hope. As Steven Pinker observes, the overall trend towards a more moral world has been encouraging over many centuries and decades.

It's a challenging question. Richard Wrangham has described males as "demonic." By which he means having a "violent temperament," due to innate biology. On the other hand we should all know from interacting with men and boys that many males are peaceful and mostly nonviolent. A sizeable portion - who knows what the numbers really are - are more or less decent. It's not, after all, as if women created morality all on their own. But I agree men's "sexual psychology" is far different than women's. When you combine that psychology to a criminally inclined person, you get rape. This is where the authors of "The Natural History of Rape" really skimped, in my reading of it at least. They failed to put in that last point clearly enough. This has lead to much confusion and condemnation of the book.
1
Great point.
1
Not always. There are many complex reasons.
1
Men may be much worse than "the common sense view," it that even exists. But I honestly don't think we should look at this case in this manner. You can lure criminals into a single place very quickly and easily. In my city, they sent wanted criminals a fake invitation to an auction, and something like a 100 showed up. That you can get criminals and other assorted perverts to congregate at a single place or time doesn't really tell you anymore than we should already know. They are everywhere.
1
Debatable.
1
We don't need to exaggerate to get the point.
1
Yes, the internet has done huge damage to society.
1
@edwardcatton1047 You as well.
1
Why not just say "many men."
1
@evaboldt653 I'm with you in principle. But one reason why so many women refuse to go along with it is the perception that feminism has a distinctly anti-man flavor to it. I don't think most feminists are like that, but the more "radical side" has been more and more finding its way into the mainstream. And then we have the absurd side of it, such as "man spreading," as if that behavior is directed only towards women.
1
It's an indictment of the French legal system. On the other hand, EU countries often espouse a "humane" approach to punishment. Remember that serial killer in, was it Norway? They could only give him 30 years.
1
Fair enough. But on the other hand, so do the women who rush to marry alpha males and misogynists, the women who make excuses for them. Yes, perhaps most men are worse. But only by so much.
1
Why would that be surprising? These men came for rape. What other kinds of men would have shown up? It was a message to perverts, and they responded.
1
It may be. But these men were, I thought, lured in by chat groups that are not specific to a single small town.
1
@smath82 OK, I agree women have it worse. There.
1
No one, male or female, can be totally trusted, period.
1
The answers are probably complex. But the short answer i would give is, we are a flawed species, maybe the men much more than the women. But all of us to an extent.
1
Progress has never been uniform and linear. Maybe you're right. But overall the trends have been in the right direction. In the late 1700s the french would dress up and go to theaters to watch cat burnings. But I agree, sometimes it seems we have made zero progress.
1
OK, but voting for a moral lunatic, traitor, bald-faced liar who sought to decieve the country that he won in 2020, spitting on the military, and an overall disgrace to civilized people everywhere , is a steep price to pay. We should not base our voting decisions on a single issue.
1
It's a good question. While not implicating all men, maybe the answer has something to do with the fact we aren't always willing to acknowledge just how much violence is one of the defining differences between men and women. I hope I'm wrong, but I believe this has a lot to do with biology.
