A little basic numbers crunching: if the average helicopter ride is one hour, and the risk is one death per 100,000 hours, that works out to 8,760 hours per year. So if sitting in your home were this dangerous, you could expect to die about once every 12 years. But that's probably being too generous. If this stat is based on passengers carried rather than hours traveled, then the risk would no doubt be greater. If the average ride were 15 minutes, that would be the equivalent of dying once every 3 years while sitting at home. I like to play with numbers and stats, and this was concocted in 5 minutes. Maybe this is all wrong. Corrections welcome.
