Because you have to look at the whole context. There were two significant events very close together in time. There is the encounter we all saw on video - Arbary unexpectedly grabs gun and Travis fires instinctively in self defense. But what most people have not learned is that several seconds before that, Travis aims his gun right at Arbery. That's assault with a deadly weapon, and that cannot be left out of the equation. You have no right to point a loaded gun at someone just because they are jogging towards you.

That may well be true as a whole. But women tend to empathize more with everyone, not just victims. So not necessarily the case they would only be compassionate towards the victim and his family. That's just my own speculation. But I have seen TV shows in the past where women jurists were in favor of less severe penalties towards a serial rapist. It actually shocked me.
