+laughnow Huh? This case has nothing to do with bullying. It's about using someone for your own selfish goals. Certainly Conrad did not perceive her words as bullying. Maybe you didn't read the case carefully enough?

+Deborah My understanding is that she was conflicted, and as you said, did initially want him to get help. But then she did an about face, and it became evident she was inspired by a movie or internet TV show involving a similar scenario. She copied some of the language almost verbatim. So it was, as in the movie, a sick charade for her own benefit and attention. So it was a lot worse than just not handling it right. That said, I don't know why people think 17-year-olds are supposed to be so grown-up. IMO they act like babies half the time, and display terrible judgement in general. So in that sense I can see why the judge may have been reluctant to give her more time.

+Rome I understand it, but that doesn't necessarily mean the law is the appropriate remedy. This is a very borderline case at best, and IMO should not have been brought because there's reasonable doubt. She did something very evil. But not necessarily illegal. It depends on one's perspective.

"People in these comments I feel are on two ends of a continuum but there are no in betweenness" But most of them do share one thing in common: the dregs of humanity, exemplars of incivility and vulgarity, and horrific role models. They're in general just like Carter. Put all of them in jail with her as far as I'm concerned, and they can all curse and swear and be vulgar to each other.

Dodd Sss "she assisted him by not trying to stop him...." But in most states, inclusion Massachusetts, failure to intervene isn't against the law.

+gottabezac "Her messages had a direct impact," But the question really is, was Roy powerless to stop that impact? That's key for me.
