  2.  @robm3074  It was said they made a lot of money at Guam. In addition to the fuel crisis I'm thinking the end of the Vietnam War had something to do with dropping the Pacific route, which coincided almost exactly with their pull out date.

  3. It was said that in the late 60s TWA was the third largest airline in the world based on passengers carried. Aeroflot and United were one and two, with TWA and AA virtually tied for 3rd/4th. This may seem odd given Pan Am's huge network of 120 cities until you realize PA often had just a few flights per week between many cities versus TWA's 5-10 per day.
